Research: Save thousands of euros!

Discover how you can save thousands of euros per dosing machine every year!

This month the results were published of a comparative study on gravimetric depositors for the plastics industry. The study examined the differences between dosing machines that measure weight loss (LIW) and Ferlin's dosing machine that measures weight gain (GIW). Read on now to find out which feeder will save you money!

For the study, tests were carried out in a controlled, virtually vibration-free environment, where a standard deviation was calculated on the basis of 200 shots. Using this statistical measure to calculate dispersion, probability calculations were made. Based on this statistical measure and probability calculations, the research makes it clear that a lot of money can be saved.

The results of the study show astonishing results. For example, that the use of a LIW doser involves far more additional costs than Ferlin's GIW doser.

LIW dosing machines

The LIW dosing machines, based on weight reduction, weigh the amount of additive that leaves the machine. A screw, whether in a dosing tube or not, is often used to add the additive to a stream of virgin material when a processing machine gives a pulse for it.

GIW dosing machine

The GIW weighing machine, like the one from Ferlin, based on weight increase, weighs the increased quantity of all materials (both virgin and additive). One by one, all materials are weighed into a weighing pan, which then dumps the materials into a mixing chamber. These machines are also called 'batch blenders'.

Results

Additive range in %LIW1GIW
[1,99 – 2,01]0,8 %34,1 %
[1,9 – 2,1]7,9 %100 %
[1,7 – 2,3]23,3 %100 %
[1,5 – 2,5]37,9 %100 %

An important conclusion from the research is that it is possible to work more accurately with the GIW dosage machine than with a LIW dosage machine. The table above shows the test results on how big the chance is that a shot is made, of which the additive ratio is within a certain range. It is clear to see that with the GIW dosing machine, the chance of actually dosing an additive within a certain range is much higher, even up to a 100 per cent chance.

LIW1GIW
Shot standard deviation in %1,01 %0,02* %
Required additive percentage in %5,03 %2,06 %
Additional additive per year in kg654.5 kg13.0 kg
Additional costs per year€6545€130

The purchase price of the LIW dosers studied is lower than that of Ferlin's GIW doser, but that is all there is to it. The much higher accuracy of the GIW doser leads to savings in the use of additives. As a rule, additives are more expensive than main materials, so saving on additives is soon lucrative. In almost all cases a Ferlin GIW proportioner will more than makeup for the extra cost in purchase and use.

The GRAVIMIX dosing machine from Ferlin saves costs!

The Gravimix will strengthen your competitive edge and enable huge cost savings. The more accurate the dosing method is, the more savings can be made on additives and masterbatch. In addition, the easier the dosing method is, the more savings can be made on other resources, such as personnel and downtime.
